RENEWABLE RESOURCE ENERGY NOW AVAILABLE FROM KENERGY

Kenergy now offers electricity generated from a renewable resource as part of its energy mix.

Sold under the name EnviroWatts, this renewable resource energy is biomass power generated at the Domtar paper mill in Hawesville, Kentucky. Operating at almost 86 percent efficiency, the Domtar operation results in estimated annual Carbon Dioxide reductions of 267,000 tons. The project was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy with the 2005 Energy Star CHP Award.

EnviroWatts are available to residential, commercial, and industrial members in limited supply. EnviroWatts can be purchased in 100 Kilowatt-hour blocks. In order to purchase EnviroWatts, you must agree to purchase that amount for 1 year. “Kenergy customers that choose to purchase EnviroWatts will know that their cooperative is purchasing environmentally friendlier energy to meet their needs while supporting the future growth of alternative energy sources,” says Kenergy President/CEO, Sanford Novick.

The cost of electricity generated from renewable resource energy is higher than electricity produced from conventional sources; so Kenergy will collect a $0.0363 surcharge per kilowatt-hour for residential customers, to cover the additional costs.
