Annual Meeting
Kenergy’s Annual Meeting will take place Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Owensboro's Sportscenter, beginning at 4 p.m. Here are some details about the event:
At the meeting, members will receive free Co-op Connection cards, plastic pails and compact fluorescent light bulbs. A dinner of pork loin sandwiches, chips, ice cream sandwiches and cake will be served.
The 2012 meeting will feature some great, new activities. First, our members will enjoy Kenergy's version of Antiques Roadshow. The co-op has hired area professionals who deal daily in antiques and collectibles, including quilts, pottery, paintings and glassware. Members can bring in one item at a time to the Antiques Roadshow booths. (Expect to stand in line!) This activity is free to our members. Who knows what treasures may sit in your closet or attic! Find out at the Annual Meeting!
So you have more than one item you want to bring to our Antiques Roadshow? That's OK. But we respectfully ask that you bring one item at a time to the appraiser's table. When that appraisal is complete, take that item back to your vehicle and select another. Of course, you'll have to stand in line again, but that's part of the fun, right?! You can listen to all the appraisals in front of you and talk with other members standing in line.
Also, in the Sportscenter parking lot, the co-op will make available an electronic recycling program. GreenWorks Recycling of Owensboro will take your old computers, monitors, TVs, cell phones, VCRs and DVDs, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, shredders, microwaves, air conditioners, electric appliances, electric tools, security equipment, digital cameras, camcorders, game consoles, paper products, batteries, copper and aluminum cabling, all metals and plastics. There is a $5 fee for TVs up to 27 inches. The fee jumps to $10 for TVs larger than 27 inches. All other recyclables will be hauled off free of charge.
Kenergy will give away cash and door prizes at the Annual Meeting.
Henderson Methodist Hospital will host a health fair, offering blood pressure checks and health advice.
King's Highway, a regional bluegrass band, will provide entertainment throughout the evening.
Kenergy will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first co-op bringing electricity to rural Kentucky. Believe it or not, the first flip of the switch took place in Henderson County — Kenergy territory! You will be able to hear area residents talk life before electricity in a video titled "Before the Lights Came On." And you can eat a piece of anniversary cake to commemorate the event.
At the Annual Meeting, 24 college students will win $500 scholarships. Grade-point averages and volunteerism do not apply. The scholarships are drawn in a lottery format. Here is how it works:
Students and at least one parent must attend to be eligible.
Kenergy’s scholarships are drawn in a lottery format. Students must register before 6:30 p.m. Scholarships are drawn after the business meeting.
To qualify, the student must be a Kenergy member-owner or must have his/her primary residence with a parent or legal guardian who presently receives electric service from Kenergy.
Students must be enrolled full time, which is at least 12 semester hours.
At the Annual Meeting, the parent or guardian must first register for the membership meeting between 4 p.m. and before 6 p.m. and then accompany the student to the scholarship registration booth to register for the drawing.
Scholarships may be used to pay tuition, buy computers, housing, lab fees or other expenses pertaining to an education. Students of all ages are eligible, including those seeking masters or doctoral degrees.
Kenergy scholarships are one-time awards. If members already received a Kenergy scholarship, they are no longer eligible.
