Kenergy offers high-school juniors chance to visit Frankfort, Washington D.C.

Henderson, Kentucky – Kenergy Corp. again will offer all-expense-paid trips to Frankfort and Washington D.C. to high school juniors who are co-op members.

The overnight trip to Frankfort will take place in April.  The date will be announced later.

The seven-day Washington D.C. trip is set for June 11-18.

Students who attend high school in Kenergy’s 14-county region and who are Kenergy members are eligible to apply.  Home-schooled students in Kenergy’s service territory are welcome to apply.

The selection process involves an application that is due to school counselors by Jan. 22 and completion of a test on rural electric co-ops that school guidance counselors will administer during the second or third weeks in February.

Students may request applications at their high school guidance counselor’s office.  Kenergy sends study materials about a week prior to test dates.

Home-schooled students should call Renee Beasley Jones, Kenergy’s communications manager, at 1-800-844-4832, extension 6103, for an application.  Once their applications are approved, Kenergy will mail study materials.  Home-schooled students will take their tests at Kenergy’s office.

From test scores, eight students will be selected to join the Frankfort Youth Tour. Four of those will be chosen to attend the Washington, D.C. tour.

Students from Kenergy’s service area will join more than 1,500 other high school juniors from the U.S. who will see their government in action, learn more about electric co-ops, visit Kentucky’s congressional representatives and tour many attractions.  Students will enjoy a boat ride down the Potomac River and attend a play at either the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts or Ford Theatre.

Kenergy serves 14 counties in western Kentucky, including Daviess, Hancock, Muhlenberg, Ohio, McLean, Henderson, Union, Webster, Hopkins, Crittenden, Lyon, Caldwell, Livingston and Breckinridge.

For more information about this opportunity, parents or students may contact their junior guidance counselors or call Renee Beasley Jones at 800-844-4832, extension 6103.
