Traditionally, Members receive a monthly bill for the electricity they’ve used. Prepaid Billing works just the opposite. This new program, coming in 2018, is strictly voluntary and allows Members to choose how much and how often you want to pay before you use the electricity.
Think of Prepaid Billing the same as you do when putting gas in your car. You pay for it before you use it. You can purchase small amounts every few days or “fill up” the tank and not worry about it for an extended period of time. When your supply is low, you simply purchase more.
In this new program, because participants will pay for electricity in advance, you do not have to pay a deposit, there are no monthly bills, and there are no late fees. The Prepaid Metering FAQ sheet provides more detail on how the program works.
