Tips to Stay Cool This Summer

A heat warning is in affect for our service territory today through Thursday. Your AC unit will be working overtime to keep your home cool. Here are some tips from U.S. Department of Energy you can use all summer long:

Block the Sun: Up to 76% of sunlight that falls on standard double-pane windows enters to become heat. Keep blinds, shades, or curtains closed during the day, especially on south- and west-facing windows.

Use Fans Strategically: Fans cool people, not rooms. Turn off ceiling fans when you leave a room to save energy.

Weatherize Your Home: Seal air leaks around windows, doors, and utility gaps using caulk or weather-stripping to keep cool air inside.

Unplug It: Even appliances that are turned off still use small amounts of electricity, known as “phantom loads.” Along with turning off the lights, unplug lamps, TVs, appliances, and anything else you are not actively using.
