All Kenergy offices will close at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 22nd due to the winter storm anticipated to hit our service territory. We want to ensure that our employees have adequate time to get home safely prior to the winter storm.

This closure will not impact our crews responding to outages if they occur due to the winter weather. You can find tips to help prepare your family for outages by visiting our Outage Center.

Please be aware that Kenergy will be utilizing Touchstone Energy Services to conduct member surveys. Emails will be sent from now until the end of December. These emails will identify themselves as Data Decisions Group on behalf of Kenergy. Thank you for taking the time to complete the brief survey. Your feedback on these surveys will help us continue to improve the services we provide you, our members.

Prior to Kenergy’s annual membership meeting to be held on June 13, 2023, individuals will be elected to represent Districts 4, 6, 8, and 9, as well as the cooperative’s large industrial members.

A ballot listing the qualified candidates in a contested district election will be mailed in May to each Kenergy member residing within the district. Members will also have the option to vote online. 

District 4, which currently is represented by Susan Blanford, includes the area of Henderson County west of the Pennyrile Parkway and west of that portion of Highway 41 which runs to the north of the Pennyrile Parkway.

District 6, which currently is represented by Larry Elder, includes that area of Daviess County west of U.S. 431.

District 8, which currently is represented by Billy Reid, includes that area of Daviess County north and east of Kentucky 54.

District 9, which currently is represented by Brent Wigginton, includes all of Hancock County.

A district director must be a member of the cooperative and must reside in the district he or she represents. 

The Industrial Director must be a member of Kenergy or the employee of a member industry having a contract demand of at least 1,000 KW and must reside in a county all, or a portion of which, is located within Kenergy’s service territory. Richard Basham is the current Industrial Director.

Any 15 or more members may make nominations of eligible persons for district director and any five or more large industrial members may make nominations of eligible persons for industrial director.  Such nominations shall be by signed written petition and shall be submitted to the cooperative not less than 110 days prior to the annual meeting. Only members eligible to vote in a district are authorized to sign a petition nominating a member from that district, and only those eligible to vote in an industrial director election are authorized to sign a petition nominating a person for industrial director. Directors shall be elected only from nominations by petition.

It is not a requirement to use a petition form prepared by Kenergy, however, anyone wishing to do so, may request one by contacting Debbie Hayden at 270.689.6101 or email at dhayden@kenergycorp.com.  

The petition must be submitted to the cooperative by 4:00 p.m., February 23, 2023. Thereafter, if the petition is valid, the name of the nominee will be posted.

Kenergy members with multiple meters need to take action

Beginning January 1, 2023, only a person’s “domicile” (primary residence) will be exempt from sales tax on utility services, including electric bills.

Kenergy is one of 26 electric cooperatives in Kentucky that work together to advocate for electric consumers. These efforts have helped protect the long-standing sales tax exemption for residential energy bills. Though this sales tax exemption remains in place for electric use at a primary residence, Kentucky will begin imposing a sales tax on other properties as of January 1, 2023.

To make sure the sales tax is not mistakenly applied to the electric bill of their primary residence, some co-op members need to take action. Members who have more than one residence in their name need to declare which meter is associated with their primary residence.

Available at Kenergy or at www.kyelectric.coop/taxanswers, a Kentucky Department of Revenue form allows utility customers to declare whether the address listed on their electric bill is their primary residence. Failure to provide a completed declaration form may result in the loss of a sales tax exemption for members who have multiple residential meters in their name.

Need help with your utility bills? Assistance is now available on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible Kenergy members. Kentucky Community Action Agencies are accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Subsidy Component. 

The program runs through December 16th or until designated funds are depleted. The previous LIHEAP program ran out of funding before the deadline, and fewer funds are available this year compared to last year. These funds will likely be depleted before December 16th, so apply now.

As a member-owned cooperative, Kenergy is here for you. If LIHEAP funds are not available and you are having trouble paying your bill, please contact us at 800.844.4832 so we can work with you and identify potential resources. 

Alamon, a pole inspection contractor for Kenergy, will begin inspecting poles Wednesday, October 5th. Each wooden pole Kenergy owns, or is attached to, will be inspected to ensure there are no hazards. Inspectors check for decay, insects, cracks, holes, age, and any damage members may have caused.

You may see trucks in your area bearing a ‘Kenergy Contractor’ magnet. Inspectors will also have an Alamon picture ID with them. Inspectors will be working during daylight hours only. Don’t be alarmed if you see the contractors parked for a few hours and/or riding from pole-to-pole on an all-terrain vehicle.

Inspection areas include Centertown, Sacramento, Beech Grove, Hanson, Onton, and Nuckels.

Your electric cooperative will be conducting a survey to assess the changing dynamics of today’s energy consumer. The survey gathers information on your household’s use of energy so we can adequately prepare for the future energy demands of our membership. 

A random sample of members will be selected to participate in the project. Your input is extremely important! Survey links will be emailed to members in August. If you receive a survey, please take a moment to complete it at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and efforts regarding this important project. 

A random computerized drawing of 356 applicants was held July 1st for three (3) $1,000 scholarships and twenty-four (24) $500 scholarships. Scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, campus housing, textbooks, computers, school supplies, and other costs directly related to the recipient’s education.
