May is National Electric Safety Month
Families should practice electrical safety year-round. Because May is National Electrical Safety Month, however, it’s a good time to pay special attention to cleaning up electrical hazards around the home.
Here’s how to start:
- Call a licensed electrician to inspect your home’s wiring. Wiring wears out just like everything else in the home, and when it does, it can pose a fire hazard.
- Unplug appliances that you keep near water—like the hairdryer and curling iron on the bathroom sink. Find another outlet where it’s safer to use them. And unplug them when you’re not using them.
- Replace lightbulbs in lamps and overhead fixtures whose wattage does not match the manufacturer’s recommended wattage. If a lightbulb’s wattage is higher than the lamp was designed to handle, it can overtax the lamp’s wiring and cause a fire.
- Unclutter power strips. Just because your power strip has room for eight plugs doesn’t mean the outlet you plug it into can handle that high of a load. High-voltage devices, like hair dryers, toaster ovens and electric irons shouldn’t go into the same power strip.
- Put away extension cords. They are not designed for constant use. Use them only temporarily, like at Christmastime when you need a long cord for your tree, and then pack them up once the holidays are over.
Kenergy Offices Closed for Memorial Day
All Kenergy offices will be closed Monday, May 25, 2020 for Memorial Day. We hope you have a safe and healthy holiday with family.
As always, you can drop payments at our nightly drop box, make payments on our SmartHub app or by accessing your account here 24/7.

Spring Service Equals Summer Comfort
’Tis the season to schedule your air-conditioning system’s annual checkup.
A qualified HVAC tech can do the routine maintenance that will keep your system humming throughout the hot summer, and can diagnose and repair any problems that might have cropped up since your last tune-up.
You can do your part to get your system ready for summer by changing air filters, cleaning leaves and other debris away from the outside unit, and installing a programmable thermostat that will automatically make the house cooler when everyone is in it and a little bit warmer during the day when the family is away.
Avoid Scams During the Coronavirus Crisis
Kenergy members should be on the lookout for suspicious emails, phone calls, or persons impersonating business employees or charitable organizations. Unfortunately, scammers take advantage of opportunities such as this when households are otherwise preoccupied. If you get a call from someone claiming to represent Kenergy, and they make threats or demand immediate payment, hang up and call us at 800-844-4832.
Monitor Energy Use While At Home
During this time, many of our members may be working from home or have more people at home during the day than normal. Having more people at home could mean more energy use. More energy use could cause an increase in your electric bill. Be proactive and monitor your energy use to help!
🖥Keep a watch on how many devices are being used and try to limit use of multiple devices at one time.
📱Log in to your account at www.kenergycorp.com or download our SmartHub app and click on ‘My Usage.’ From that tab, you can view your monthly, daily and even hourly usage and compare that data.
🌡Keep your thermostat at a constant temperature throughout the day.
💡Turn lights off when you leave a room. Encourage kids to do the same!
Kenergy to Close Lobbies to Public
With the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic, we know that the people we serve are facing many concerns. Following our cooperative values, Kenergy is dedicated to doing what we can to fulfill our civic duty and live up to the trust that our members place in us to bring them safe, reliable and affordable energy services.
As a cooperative, we have a responsibility to do what is in the best interest of all of our members.
Beginning Thursday, March 19th, we will be closing our lobbies to the public. Members are still able to pay bills, start service and conduct all other necessary business through our free SmartHub app, our website, by mail or by phone. You can also utilize our drive-thrus at our Henderson and Owensboro offices and our night deposit boxes at our Henderson, Owensboro, Marion, Hawesville and Hanson locations. These boxes will be checked daily. Anyone with questions regarding any of these options can call 800-844-4832. We ask that anyone who can do business by phone, to please do so.
This step will allow us to limit the direct exposure of our members and employees. Our service and field personnel will also be employing “social distancing.” Our goal is to decrease the likelihood of illness and resulting work disruptions so that we can continue to provide our members continuity of service.
In addition, we will forego the disconnecting of service to members for non-payment or low funds and suspend late fees for a limited time. While this is not normal procedure, we are sensitive to the well-being of all our members. Though disconnects may not occur, it remains the responsibility of each member to pay as they can, which will help avoid a larger balance in the future. Bills will continue to be sent as usual. We encourage any member who is facing financial difficulty during this time to call us at 800-844-4832.
We always stand at the ready to help our members, but even more so during this challenging time. We understand these changes may be inconvenient, so we greatly appreciate your patience. We believe this preventative measure will reduce the risk for both our members and employees.
Kenergy Suspends Disconnects for Limited Time Due to COVID-19
Kenergy understands that our members are facing many concerns and uncertainties during this time with school, jobs and lives being disrupted.
Starting March 17, 2020, Kenergy will not disconnect for non-payment and will suspend late fees for a limited time (at least 30 days). While this is not normal procedure, we are sensitive to the situation and well-being of our members.
Delaying disconnections in no way relieves members of the obligation to ultimately pay for electric service. Bills will continue to be sent as normal and we encourage any member facing financial difficulty during this time to contact us at 800-844-4832.
