Will Wathen of Owensboro has been elected to the District 7 position on the Kenergy board of directors. Mr. Wathen, along with Chris Rhoads and Cory Maynard, challenged Eddie Leach who has represented District 7 since 2021.
Garrett Owen of Livermore has been elected to the District 10 position. Mr. Owen and Jared Bratcher challenged Jonathan Ayer who has represented that district since 2012.
Incumbent Bob White, representing District 2, faced no opposition and will retain his seat for another three-year term.
Avoid hazards around water and electricity
As farmers gear up for an active summer across the Commonwealth, Kenergy urges extra caution when operating irrigation equipment.
During the spring and summer, farmers often must use irrigation equipment to supplement rainfall, but water and electricity don’t mix. That’s why it’s essential to use safe work practices.
Follow these tips to stay safe:
Kenergy has established an annual scholarship program to assist in financing the higher education of students whose families are cooperative members. In 2024, the cooperative will award three $1,000 scholarships and twenty-four $500 scholarships. Scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, campus housing, textbooks, computers, school supplies and other costs directly related to the recipient’s education.
On July 2, 2024, a random computerized drawing will be held for three (3) $1,000 scholarships and twenty-four (24) $500 scholarships. Winners will be notified by email on July 3rd and must contact Jeanette Weedman by return email as soon as possible. The deadline to reply is July 9, 2024 verifying they received notification and accept the scholarship according to above guidelines or they will forfeit and another winner may be drawn as scholarship winner. Winners will be posted under Recent News on Kenergy’s website after the drawing. They will also be listed in Kentucky Living.
The student must be a Kenergy member-owner or have his or her residence with a parent or legal guardian who receives electric service from Kenergy.
High school seniors or graduates may apply. High school juniors planning to attend an accredited college, as a high school senior, 2024-2025 with full-time status, may also apply. Applicants must attend or have plans to attend college during the upcoming fall and/or spring semester. Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time program (no fewer than 12 credit hours) at a fully accredited college, university, technical college or trade school. Nine credit hours meets full-time requirement for Masters’ program. Post-graduate college students also may apply. Non-traditional students are welcome as well.
Kenergy scholarships are one-time-only awards. Previous winners may not apply.
Scholarship recipients must permit Kenergy to use their names, parents’ names, county of residence and photograph in the cooperative’s publications, including the member newsletter.

Kenergy has been awarded $10.2 million from Governor Andy Beshear to help fund the Connect, powered by Kenergy project bringing high-speed internet to the electric cooperative’s members. This money will help buildout to 2,353 homes and business in Henderson County and 1,221 homes and businesses in Daviess County.
Governor Beshear presented the check to Tim Lindahl, Kenergy President and CEO on Friday as part of a press conference at Henderson County High School. Lindahl highlighted the critical need for western Kentuckians to have access to high-speed, reliable internet.
“Today’s broadband needs are what electricity was to the commonwealth in the 1930s,” said Tim Lindahl, Kenergy President and CEO. “By installing infrastructure that is owned by the people it serves, giving all of the benefits back to those people, we are on pace with this funding to solve this problem for generations.
Connect, powered by Kenergy is one of the fastest fiber deployment projects in the United States anticipating a full system buildout by the end of 2026.
“We feel like what Kenergy is doing is sparking a broadband transformation in western Kentucky,” Lindahl said. We are grateful for our partnership with Conexon and now the state with this funding opportunity to keep this monumental shift for our communities going.”

The Kentucky Chapter of Women in Rural Electrification (WIRE) is offering three $1,000 scholarships to Kentucky college students.
The scholarships are open to any applicant who meets the following criteria:
• Student or Student’s family must be served by a Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative.
• Student must have completed at least 60 credit hours at the end of the 2024 spring college term.
• Student must attend a Kentucky college or university
The scholarship application deadline is June 5, 2024. Scholarship recipients will be notified in July. Download the application here.
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, career goals, recommendations from professors and community leaders, and financial need.
