Kenergy selects new President, CEO

HENDERSON, Ky. — Kenergy Corp.’s Board of Directors has announced the selection of Jeff Hohn as the cooperative’s new President and CEO.

Hohn succeeds Greg Starheim, who resigned in May to work at the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corp. Sandy Novick, who retired from Kenergy in 2012, returned as interim CEO during the board’s selection process. Novick will remain at the co-op until Hohn starts his duties on Monday, Oct. 5.

Bob White, chairman of Kenergy’s Board of Directors, said the board looks forward to working with Hohn.

“For more than 25 years, Jeff has worked at rural electric cooperatives,” White said. “He believes wholeheartedly in this business model and understands the important relationship between a cooperative and its member-owners. The Kenergy board is confident in Jeff’s experience and leadership abilities.”

PSC allows Big Rivers deal to sell electricity in Nebraska

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 21, 2015) – The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved a settlement that permits Big Rivers Electric Corp. to sell wholesale power to several customers in Nebraska.

In an order issued today, the PSC said revenue from the contracts – although relatively modest - should help pay a portion of Big Rivers’ fixed operating costs that would otherwise be borne by its Kentucky customers.

A unanimous settlement agreement reached in the case also provides that, under certain conditions related to the financial health of Big Rivers, the profits from the sales would go into funds that are being used to cushion the impact of recent rate increases on Big Rivers customers in Kentucky.

Changes coming for debit, credit card payments

In the wake of recent data breaches at large national retailers such as Target and Home Depot, Kenergy will change the way it accepts debit and credit card payments.

We expect these important changes to go into effect as early as September, and they will affect debit and credit card payments made in person, by phone or by mail.

Why is Kenergy changing the way it accepts debit and credit card payments? Our No. 1 goal is to protect your sensitive financial information.

Commercial credits extend to August

A reserve fund that has been applied to fully offset a 2014 increase in Kenergy's wholesale power costs to the co-op's 19 industrial members is expected to end in August.

The fund's depletion will end a credit on Kenergy bills this class of members has received since Feb. 1, 2014.

Business members should expect their credits to end at the same time.

Novick returns as interim CEO

As of Monday, June 22, Sandy Novick assumed the role of Kenergy’s interim CEO. Novick retired from Kenergy in 2012 after working five years as the electric co-op’s CEO. His leadership guided Kenergy through Kentucky’s worst natural disaster – the Ice Storm of 2009. The storm delivered a devastating blow to the co-op’s service area, causing nearly $34 million in damage to Kenergy’s infrastructure. Novick will serve as interim while…

New communications equipment being installed

Throughout Kenergy’s service area, crews are installing routers, or new communications equipment. Recently, you may have noticed these devices on utility poles or street lights in your area and wondered what they are. When complete, this new system will improve your electric reliability and help the co-op contain costs, to name a few advantages.
